My goal for this project was to investigate the silent but impactful moment of a leaf falling off a branch—an occasion that signifies both a conclusion and a start. The change that takes place when a leaf gets tangled in moss and vines, eventually decomposing and returning to the ground, is what I wanted to convey visually. I decided to depict the leaf cut in half, with its internal structure leaking outward and starting to blend in with its surroundings, to highlight the decaying process. This visual choice emphasizes the merging of growth and decay, life and death—how movement and continuation exist even in disintegration.
The composition naturally deviated in unexpected ways from the original idea as it developed. These modifications enhanced the work rather than diminished it. The change gave me the opportunity to polish the piece and expand the concept, taking it into more emotional and abstract realms. Overall, I think the outcome is conceptually rich and visually striking, expressing the intricacy and beauty of natural cycles in a poetic and intimate way.
